SEC Media Days

Strange days are upon us. SEC Media days always cracks me up. You can tell these players and coaches would rather be ANYWHERE but sitting in a room for hours talking about football. It’s painful, even for us media types, trying to come up innovative and creative questions for each coach.
I remember one year covering the ACC, Duke’s head coach Carl Frank walked in and sat down. There was about 15 tv guys in there, and not one of us could think of a question! What do you ask Duke football coach about? How bad are you guys gonna be this year? What do you think of the basketball team? Bizarre.

Back to my point, it’s strange how much attention Nick Saban has received. Sure it’s in Birmingham, so Tide fans can walk to the hotel and get their autographs, etc. But, his return to the SEC seems to have more fanfare than the fact Urban Meyer won a national championship last season. Granted, Meyer isn’t the most exciting interview in history, no getting around that, but c’mon boys, the Gators are once again a national power. They should be the top story, along with Darren McFadden making a Heisman Trophy run. That’s ok, it will all be decided on the field, which is how these coaches like it. The players too!
